Indices trading lets you speculate on the performance of groups of leading companies, rather than trading individual stocks. Each index represents a collection of major corporations within a specific market or region.
For example, the US500 (S&P 500) tracks the top 500 companies in the United States, while the GER40 (DAX 40) tracks 40 of Germany’s largest firms.
An index tracks the prices of many different company stocks all at once. This gives you a simple way to gain exposure to entire economies or sectors through a single trade.
How Indices Trading Works
When trading indices, you are not buying shares of individual companies. Instead, you trade a financial product, like a Contract for Difference (CFD), that follows the movement of the index’s overall value.
You can profit whether the market goes up or down:
- Buy (Go Long): You do this when you think the value of the index will rise. If you are right, you can close your trade to make a profit.
- Sell (Go Short): This is a special feature of CFD trading. You do this when you think the value of the index will fall. If you are right, you can close your trade to make a profit.
At Tradin, you can trade more than 15 global indices with competitive spreads, no commissions, and leverage up to 1:200.
